Leadership as a Spiritual Endeavor
Lest we forget, we are on a rock spinning in space with no idea where the boundaries of existence exist. Theories abound throughout man’s time and yet new discoveries often invalidate previous “truths.” Sometimes its seems we all have life too figured out. The logic of our intellect has led to a “knowing” that often falls short of reality. We have fallen asleep to the mystery of our existence and thus to the joy of not “knowing.” I love the idea that adventure begins where the known ends. It seems a life of adventure is admitting we don't “know” much. That mindset invites in the possibility of the spiritual life. The life beyond what the human logical mind can comprehend and beyond the Newtonian logic so prevalent in our modern society. Our ancestors had the pleasure of not knowing so much. Life was much more of a mystery and thus they bowed to powers beyond themselves. As we have developed our knowing, our believing has atrophied. Oh to live with the full engagement of the mind and the invitation of the spirit. What if we invited God back into our knowing? What if we honed and honored the mystical ways of the spirit to inform the logical processing of our frontal lobe? To me that is the height of human experience. Enjoying the minds powers to process sensical information while our soul was guided by the compass of the spirit.
To lead others one must first lead themselves. For as we lead and love ourselves we lead others. Beware of those in leadership for they are leading you to where they are. Earthly leaders must be guided by a timeless presence. A knowing beyond the limitations of the human brain. A knowing that has existed throughout the ages. A knowing that exists beyond the ages. For truly we are spiritual beings having a human experience. And spiritual beings are both servant and master for we are brothers and sisters united in spirit. Though one may be in a worldly leader role, both parties have an opportunity and responsibility to love and lead each other. Imagine a world filled with humans seeing themselves as leaders, guided by virtue and wisdom, leading and following each other in humility and love. Now imagine the workplace flourishing under this arrangement. It seems to me this possibility may be the next workplace revolution as we move into a new year and a new beginning in the workplace post the Great Resignation of the COVID era. May we all be blessed to find organizations led and guided by spiritual leaders of the highest order.
